General Use Instructions
AIBN is white crystal, soluble in alcohol, ether and organic solvents, insoluble in water. During heating, it decomposes to release Nitrogen gas, sometime cause Cyanide substance. AIBN has a 10-hr half-life in solution at 64 °C (147 °F)
AIBN is one initiator of oil soluble. It is mainly used for bulk, solution, suspension and emulsion polymerization of a wide variety of monomers.
The polymerization of the monomers used is initiated by the free cyano-isopopyl radicals which are formed upon thermal decomposition of AIBN. It does not form oxygenated residues as it is the case with peroxides and does not cause oxidative degradation of pigmented or dyed polymer compositions such as paints, coatings, fibers and sheets. So AIBN is used in polymerization of methyl methacrylate, acrylics (coating), acryl amide, vinyl acetate, styrene and vinyl chloride.
Polymers produced by AZO initiator are used for different applications such as fibers, sheets, coating resins flocculants etc.
